Balneotherapy, Thermal and Mineral Baths

Thermal Baths of Hungary

What is a thermal bath
Rich in minerals and warmed by the heat of the Earth’s interior, thermal water is the basis of our natural treatments in the Hungarian spas of Hévíz, Bük, Sárvár and Budapest. As the natural temperature of most thermal springs is higher than acceptable for human skin, the water has to be cooled down to the temperature suitable for bathing, which is usually between 36-39°C. The exception is the Hévíz Lake where the water naturally has a pleasant range of 33-37°C. Even in winter, it does not fall below 24°C. Hungarian thermal waters contain various useful salts and trace elements. Some are also naturally enriched by dissolved healing gasses like hydrogen sulphide or carbon dioxide. Traditionally, clients bathe in swimsuits in large common pools (outdoor or indoor).

How a thermal bath helps
The heat of still thermal water widens the blood vessels, thus improving blood circulation and relaxing muscles. Further it alleviates stiffness and pain in chronic joint and spine disorders. The presence of CO2 further improves the efficiency of cardiovascular system. Thanks to the content of sulphur, the elasticity of the connective tissues is enhanced, too.
