Balneotherapy, Thermal and Mineral Baths

Thermal Baths of Piešt’any

What is a thermal bath
Rich in minerals and warmed by the heat of the Earth’s interior, thermal water is the basis of our natural treatments in the Slovak spa of Piešťany. As the natural temperature of our thermal springs is around 68°C, the water has to be cooled down to a temperature suitable for bathing, which is usually between 36-39°C. It contains various useful salts and trace elements as well as a small amount of hydrogen sulphide. Traditionally, clients bathe naked in large indoor common pools, called Mirror Pools (men and women separately). Your thermal bathing treatment will conclude with a 15-minute full body dry wrap.

How a thermal bath helps'
The heat of still thermal water widens the blood vessels, thus improving blood circulation and relaxing the muscles. Further it alleviates stiffness and pain in chronic joint and spine disorders. Thanks to the content of sulphur, the elasticity of the connective tissues is enhanced as well.

Individual Thermal Bath
In case you prefer a private bath tub over common pools, you may indulge in an individual thermal bath. It is as effective as bathing in the Mirror Pool, only you do not get distracted by other clients.

Individual Thermal Aroma Bath
We offer an assortment of herbal extracts which are added to the thermal water to create a variety of effects. Amongst others, these include: lavender for relaxation, camomile for its healing effects on the skin, lemon balm for a mild sedative effect, and nettle for skin rejuvenation. Not only is there a relaxing effect from the thermal water, but also a benefit from the herbal extracts.

Carbonated Thermal Bath
Somewhat cooler (32-34°C) than the original thermal bath, the carbonated thermal water is artificially enriched by carbon dioxide. Due to its presence, sulphur and other minerals from the thermal water are absorbed more efficiently through the skin into deeper tissues where they inhibit the degradation of elastin and collagen in the cartilages, tendons and connective tissues. At the same time, the healing properties of thermal water are preserved. The CO2 gas combined with the thermal water therefore has a multiple healing effect.

Individual Thermal Bubble Bath
The fizziness of this bath is caused by small bubbles of normal air pumped into the still thermal water. During the treatment you lie relaxed as small air bubbles gently caress and coat your skin. The treatment is ideal for general relaxation, as there is a pleasant soothing feeling of general tickling from the bubbles. During the treatment, the heat from the thermal water helps the blood vessels dilate, reducing blood pressure and relaxing the muscles.

Kneipp Bath
This treatment is carried out in an individual thermal bath at a temperature between 36-37°C. However, it is uniquely different from an ordinary individual thermal bath since Kneipp herbal extracts are added to the water to create a variety of effects depending on the wishes or health needs of the guest. This treatment helps to re-energise and stimulate healing in the body and is particularly effective in combination with other therapies.
