Rehabilitation Swimming
What is rehabilitation swimming
This type of swimming is a popular procedure particularly among clients with physical disabilities. It takes place in a thermal pool with water approx. 33°C warm. The physiotherapist may assist clients in the water if necessary.
How rehabilitation swimming helps
Because of the buoyancy, temperature and chemical effects of the water, clients with limited mobility may experience relief from their daily sitting, crouching or otherwise deformed position. With the assistance of the physiotherapist, they may stretch their spastic bodies, deepen their breathing, and enjoy a less-limiting water environment where the force of gravity is reduced. The change of position from predominantly vertical into horizontal stimulates the respective brain areas and facilitates movement in uncommon ways. The procedure is also recommended as a part of post-operative rehabilitation in some cases.
