Phototherapy
What is phototherapy?
Phototherapy is treatment by light, be it infrared, visible, or ultraviolet. Treatment by daylight is as old as humankind and the sun is central to it. All artificial light sources produce a specific range of wavelengths that have respective healing effects. The effects also depend on the polarisation of light. You will find more details under specific treatments.
How phototherapy helps?
The specific range of wavelengths used for treatment has a more intense effect when applied alone than as part of the sunrays coming from the sun. The light in general stimulates the growth and regeneration of living tissues, enhances the blood supply and metabolism, boosts immunity and positively affects our mood. The specific healing effects of various parts of the light spectrum are given under the respective procedures as they vary considerably.
